![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() this album makes me want to learn more about Elliott because i had never heard of him before this and it also makes me want to check out some more of his albums and songs. This is the current edition of the List, updated to include all films in all editions of the 1001 Book, including films culled to make way for newer releases. if Jack Elliott is good enough for these 4 men then he is good enough for me too, i really enjoyed this album and i was torn about what rating to give it, i finally settled to give it a 7/10 rating because it is solid and full of good songs that i’d be happy to go back and hear again. this album was re-released in 1968 under the name “ muleskinner” which i presume was taken from the song with the similar name, it also added 2 bonus tracks but i listened to the 1958 original album version.īob Dylan, Paul McCartney, Mick Jagger and Keith Richards have all noted Jack Elliott as an influence which is crazy high praise when you consider who that praise is coming from. the only other instrument i heard while listening to this album was the harmonica which could be heard on the song “ Mule Skinner Blues” which i thought was a nice addition and added a little extra something to the song. i like the idea that every part of this album and every noise is made by one man playing a guitar and singing, it isn’t over produced in the studio and it doesn’t require many musicians on many instruments to sound great, it is only Jack but there is one exception however because in the song “ New York Town” Jack literally introduces his friend “woody” who he worked with many times during the 1950’s and he contributed by playing guitar and he sang too.Īlmost every song on this album is introduced by Jack and in some cases he tells a story about the song, it seems strange at first because it seems a little unfamiliar but it becomes more familiar the further you get in the album. I really enjoy acoustic music and this album is mostly one man and his acoustic guitar. ![]() “Hey baby, come here quick, this old cocaine’s going to make me sick cocaine, all around my brain” ![]()
